Association for Anthroposophic Medicine and Therapies in America

Welcome

Anthroposophic medicine and therapies constitute a holistic and human-centered approach to healing and understanding human illness.  These approaches recognize and utilize modern medicine’s vast information and rigorous methodology.  Each anthroposophic therapist is fully credentialed in his/her profession, for example nursing, medicine, massage therapy, art therapy, music therapy, etc.

The anthroposophic approach goes further than conventional modern therapeutics, adding knowledge of the laws of the living organism, the psyche, and the spirit.  This knowledge is derived from a spiritual scientific methodology which expands on conventional science.  It requires – besides the ongoing professional, personal, and moral development required of every true health professional – an active meditative life.  This inner activity leads to a deepened capacity for apprehending the whole human being.  Such a meditative journey was outlined by Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925) in many books and lectures, and has been practiced and written about by many authors since that time.

The result is an integrated image of the whole human being in illness and health.  This makes possible a holistic but also rational approach to the healing professions.  Anthroposophic medicine and therapeutics are to be found in over 60 countries around the world, practiced by thousands of highly trained health professionals.  Health professions with established anthroposophic approaches include nursing, art therapy, movement therapy, music therapy, massage, and medicine.  Training in these approaches are well-established in Europe, and some trainings also exist in the US, Canada and elsewhere in the world.

What makes Rhythmical Massage different from Einreibung?

    • What makes Rhythmical Massage different from Rhythmical Einreibung (or Embrocation)?
The German Word Einreibung is translated into English as embrocation or oiling.
You can image it as a rhythmical oiling on the surface layer of the skin, where as the Rhythmical Massage Therapy can go deeper into other layers of the muscle tissue, even down to the bones. The techniques include a greater spectrum of quality of touch.
Both forms of therapeutic touch are gentle, rhythmical, and work out of Anthroposophy They have many things in common.
In the past Einreibung has been practiced by anthroposophical nurses and Rhythmical Massage Therapy by massage professionals. Today caregivers and massage therapists also practice the Einreibung.
The Einreibungs training is considerably shorter often 4-8 days.
The Rhythmical Massage Therapy Training is usually anywhere from 19-27 weeks of training. It goes into great details on how to use rhythmical massage for a very wide range of conditions. A person has to be a professional Massage Therapist in order to take this training.
      I hope this is helpful
